Frequently Asked Questions

Getting Started

What is the best product for me?

Choosing between a Virtual Tour and Photo Tour depends on the size of your listing, your marketing budget, and personal preference.

Choosing Virtual Tours
Virtual Tours come in four types: Basic, Standard, Deluxe, and Premium. If you are unsure about what to order, it's a good idea to start with a Standard for an average sized home. If you are listing a town-home, apartment, or just want to try a virtual tour at a lower cost, a Basic Tour is the way to go. Virtual Tours are rich in features and functionality. They give buyers a chance to experience and interact with your listing as if they were actually there.

Choosing Photo Tours
Photo Tours cost less than Virtual Tours and come in two types: Full Service and Self Service.  A full service photo tour covers your entire listing no matter the size. We shoot your photos, digtially enhance them, and create the photo tour for you. Self Service means we create a photo tour from images that you take and send to us. A Photo Tours is a simple, full screen viewable, slide-show of high definition photos. It lacks the extensive features of a virtual tour, but it makes up for it in simple elegance.

How do I prepare for my photo shoot?

Preparing your home for a Virtual Tour

Step 1: Un-clutter
This is the first and most important part of the process. It's also the hardest. All those family pictures of babies, weddings, and high school dances on your fridge are nice to show friends and family, but these types of things often look like clutter to home buyers. Un-cluttering your home will make it appear cleaner, more inviting & open. Most importantly, this will open up the buyers imagination to what they can do with the space. This flow of ideas for the buyers will keep your home on their mind. You help create this “buyers spark” with a minimal but functional use of space. However, you don't want it to look awkwardly bare.
Get out boxes and trash bags. Pack away excess nick naks, anything that doesn't fit neatly on shelves, counters, etc... Consider a garage sale or giving items to charity. You don't need to leave shelves bare, but you do need to organize what's on them. A picture frame, neutral books (meaning books that won’t offend anyone), nice artwork, maybe some plants… these types of things should do the trick. Remember, If your are not using it, consider packing it away.
Also, it's important to mention that the less clutter the camera sees, the higher quality and sharp the images will be once they are online. Clutter is the #1 reason why some tours have higher quality images than others.

Step 2: Fix-up
You don't want buyers thinking about fixing and replacing things the first time they step into your home. Replace all light bulbs and broken or missing fixtures such as outlet covers. Replace or clean your dirty old shower curtains. Inspect every room in your home. Make a list and replace or fix anything that needs it. If your on a budget, make a budget and fix what you can.

Step 3: Vacuum, Sweep, Dust, Mop & Clean
A little dust usually doesn't show up in a tour. However, it helps tremendously for showing your home, and having nice shiny surfaces makes your photos crisp and sharp. If you can, you should hire a professional cleaner prior to the photo shoot, or set aside part of the day to do a thorough cleaning yourself.
If you live in the home while you are selling, try your hardest to keep it as clean as you can throughout the selling processes. Buying a home is a huge investment and a big life decision. If a buyer sees two identical homes and one is particularly clean… that person is much more likely to buy the one that is obviously more cared for by the current owners.

Step 4: Outside
Don't forget about the outside! A freshly mowed lawn, trimmed hedges, and removing branches and twigs makes your home inviting to buyers. This is also very good for photos. Maybe even consider a fresh coat of paint outside. This can raise the value of your home much more than the cost of materials or even professional labor.

Where does my tour appear?

Most agents show their listings on several websites for maximum exposure. A Tally Tours Virtual Tour or Photo Tour can be linked to your listing on any website. We automatically link your tours to the top three listing search sites (Homes.com, Homeseekers.com, and Realtor.com). We also offer easy linking to any major social networking site (i.e. Facebook). The virtual tour can be emailed to buyers and other realtors or quickly downloaded onto any PC.

Automatic Linking
We automatically link your Virtual tour to Homes.com, HomeSeekers.com, and Realtor.com.  If you are not an enhanced member of Realtor.com, we can still link your tour to their site, but there is a $25 charge (their charge not ours). Homes.com will not accept virtual tours unless you are a member.

What is the turnaround time?

Tally Tours produces a lot of Virtual Tours, Photos Tours, and other marketing products, but behind the scenes we are a small business with one photographer and one producer. Durring busier weeks, turnaround time may exceed average. If you are in a pinch, a 24-hour rush turnaround option is available.

Average Turnaround Time

  • Virtual Tours: 3 Days
  • Photo Tours: 2 Days
  • Flyers: 2 Days
  • Sign Riders: 1 Week
  • Tour on CD Rom(s): 1 Week
  • Slide Show DVDs: 1 Week
  • Single Listing Website: 1 Day

If you need your MLS still photos quickly, we can generally send them within 24 - 48 hours by request.

We recommend scheduling a virtual tour shoot at least 4 business days before you will need it online.

How long is my tour active?

Virtual Tours and Photo Tours are active for 2 years but can be renewed if the listing remains active.

Other Issues

Virtual Tour Disapears in Internet Explorer

This is a problem with Internet Explorer (IE) and how it handles links that open into a new browser window. When you click to view a virtual tour it doesn’t actually disappear, it simply pops up for a brief moment and then goes behind the main browser window.  If this is happening to you, here is what we recommend you do:

  1. Within Internet Explorer, click “Tools” at the top
  2. Go to “Internet Options” (usually the last option in the list)
  3. In the area labeled “Tabs” click “settings”
  4. In this window find the section titled “When a pop-up is encountered:”
  5. Choose the option for “Always open pop-ups in new tab”
  6. Click OK / Click OK again.
